What exactly does Honda Certified mean?

We've all seen the Certified logo on every car dealers website. Certified this, Certified that. What does it all mean? Is it actually worth the extra $$ you need to spend to have it certified? The answer is YES, it does! You may be sitting there thinking, "Yeah right, he's just saying that because he works at a car dealership". Believe me, if you are thinking that you'd be wrong. When I was in automotive sales, selling the extended warranty was the easiest part of my job. And no, this wasn't because I was a great salesman. Far from it actually! I sold it to almost every customer because I believed in it! I have never bought a vehicle without an extended warranty and I never will. It's by far the best value you can buy. I have only bought one NEW car in my life. The other 8 car purchases have been pre-owned. About 1 or two years old on average and I have never had a problem with any one of them! You can save a lot of money going this route. I wish the Certified program was out when I purchased my vehicles. It's kind of like an all in one shop! The car and the warranty, all wrapped in to one! I relied on the after-market warranty which I used many, many times and I got back my investment ten-fold! Read up about what makes a Certified car, a Certified car. It's a great investment, read on, you'll see.
Honda Certified - Just What Does It Mean???!!
Dependability

Honda is known for its quality, reliability and resale value. Whether it's a safety feature, the latest high-tech gadget hookup or an added convenience feature, you can trust that your Honda Certified Used Car has everything you expect from a Honda. And it's built to go the distance, so you're sure to get your money's worth. The experts agree: Kelly Blue Book's kbb.com honored Honda with the 2009 Best Resale Value Award.*

Inspection

Every Honda Certified Used Car goes through our certification process to make sure it lives up to Honda's high standards. And only well-maintained Honda vehicles are eligible for certification, a process that includes:

  • An exhaustive 150-point mechanical and appearance inspection, performed by the dealer technician, in which all major vehicles systems are scrutinized, including brakes, engine, drivetrain, tires, wheels, exhaust system and vehicle interior and exterior.
  • A process where Honda-trained technicians recondition any component that does not meet our standards, or replace it with Genuine Honda parts. All scheduled maintenance services are brought up-to-date.
  • A free CARFAX Vehicle History report to assure that your Honda Certified Used Car does not contain and DMV-reported incidents such as salvage, fire, flood damage, odometer problems or lemon history

Warranty

Every Honda Certified Used Car comes with peace of mind: One of the most extensive used-car warranties in the business. So you can drive off the lot feeling confident about your purchase. These warranties cover:

  • Major engine and transmission components, except for standard maintenance items, body glass and interior.
  • The repair or replacement of any covered part that is defective in material or workmanship under normal use. With a $0 deductible.
  • Powertrain coverage for 7 years/100,000 miles (whichever comes first) from the vehicle's original in-service date.
  • Non-Powertrain coverage for 12 months/12,000 miles (whichever comes first) from the original warranty expiration date, or if the original warranty has expired, from the Honda Certified Used Cars purchase date.

  1. A Honda Certified warranty on my pre-owned Honda gave me piece of mind when I bought my Civic a few months ago. I don't have to worry about being without a vehicle if something happens to it.

  6. I think the reason why it's always labeled “certified” because has something to do with the car's great performance. It could be a simple statement that even though their cars had been to several owners, it still function like a brand new car.
